    Charging ac in g body

Most of those are banned now too. In fact any R-12 advertised as a replacement is banned. The only one that is OK is Enviro-Safe. But they advertise it as an R-134a replacement. Formerly it was an R-12/ R-134 replacement years ago. I think it is propane based so some worry about it exploding...

    Charging ac in g body

If there is any pressure at all in the system, that is a good thing. That means it kept out the moisture which is bad for the system. No need to vacuum the system down. I have experimented with an empty system and found it took only a few ounces of freon to get the compressor to engage. The low...

anyone else buying up parts before tariffs hit?

I have been doing control arms w/ball joints lately on newer cars. Moog has been fine with those. But wheel bearing hubs- OMG. All off brands have failed except Timkin and AC DELCO. Those soldier on.

anyone else buying up parts before tariffs hit?

I really do try and stick to famous American brands. MOOG, PENN, RIGID, LINCOLN. But they have been offshoring too.

Pontiac OHC-6 SPRINT parts on fleabay

Jack, a guy that lived on my Wife's block had a brand new 1968 Firebird convertible, OHC-6 SPRINT, 4 speed manual. He bought it as soon as he returned from 'Nam. It was beautiful. For years I begged him to sell it to me. I had my '68 hard top at the time. He was always no, no, no I'll never...

anyone else buying up parts before tariffs hit?

While I have loads of parts I scooped up when RockAuto has clearances, they never are what I need at the moment. I don't see price hikes just yet on RA, but as time goes by I'm sure they will. Check out this random fishing rod I made an order for at TEMU just to see. YIKES!!!!

That would have to be a Clifford intake manifold. They offered weird stuff no one else did. What a great looking engine that is!

Pontiac OHC-6 SPRINT parts on fleabay

One of my more memorable road trips to Pittsburgh was in the new-to-me Firebird. There was an engine oil leak so bad the oil was shorting out the spark plug wires. I had to stop every hundred miles or so and clean them off. You could see the spark running up and down the wires on the oil. Not...

    Passenger footwell courtesy light location

The push button switch is the same on both door jambs. Either the inoperable one is shot or the wires are bad. They are easy to get, just unscrew it from the frame. Sometimes they get cruddy and just need to be cleaned.

Pontiac OHC-6 SPRINT parts on fleabay

My original 1968 Firebird came with a one barrel 250 cu overhead cam six cylinder engine. I thought it was a great engine, lots of power for a 250. The light weight allowed the Firebird to handle like a champ. It had design issues and like most people I got rid of it for a Pontiac V-8. At the...

I need a good torque wrench

We swapped the summer tires onto the Cobalt. The Husky wrench worked well. A nice crisp click, easy adjustment, and it is ratcheting. I hope it lasts.

Mine did not have the lights. But I saved a set from a Firebird. I just drilled a tiny pilot hole where I wanted them, and screwed them in under the lip of the dash with sheet metal screws. They hang backwards facing away from the dash over the open area underneath. A great addition to the car.

Does anyone here regret their auto to manual swap?

3:73's are for street fun and racing- nothing else. I had a stock Monte SS 3:73 rear and I hated it. 5000 rpm just to keep up with traffic. It took an entire tank of gas to get from Queens to Englishtown. Another tank to get back. YIKES!! I soon swapped in a set of 3:23's I got from GEVO's...

Does anyone here regret their auto to manual swap?

I had a pretty potent Pontiac 400 in my 1981 Malibu wagon. The Saginaw trans took everything I could throw at it. BUT: I had a 3;11 first gear, and a 3:23 7.5" rear gear. The proper gear ratios take the strain off the trans and rear. If you are thinking of putting a powerful motor in front of...

Does anyone here regret their auto to manual swap?

My 1983 Bonnewagon I converted to a manual trans before I even registered it. That was 20 years ago and I never regretted it. But then I have always been a manual trans guy. I will make a guess that most of the replies on this site will be pro-manual trans.

buying g body from out of state - seller has title in someone elses name

In NY, the biggest thing is them collecting taxes on the sale. I don't care how small it is, they want to be paid some tax. It is the people who try getting away with a no tax 'gift' that they send to Motor Vehicle Hell. You can make an old car as cheap as you want, just give them some tax...

buying g body from out of state - seller has title in someone elses name

I got my 1968 Firebird in a three way swap. The car I swapped was a 1968 Firebird 400 4/speed car that I got as a parts car. Luckily the guy I bought it from was a newly minted NYPD cop and I knew where to find him. He had signed the regi over to me but he was fine with doing the notarized...

No oil Pressure with distributor cap

I only use a cut down distributor as it is the absolute best. I have used a big long screwdriver with the handle cut off when nothing else was available. All that matters is the pump gears get turned. On my Buick 350 I added the high volume kit to the pump and packed it with the Vaseline. No...
