    350 serpentine system

3rd gens with V8's aren't terribly common in bone yards though, they seem to get picked clean overnight. Everyone wants Camaro parts for some reason (???). Is there a reason why we can't use a trucks accessory system? V8 half tons are far more common...

    Upgrade to CS style alternator

You are exactly right. I swapped to the CS144 on my 1982 Trans-am. I got the alternator, along with the plug from the wreckers ($50). I just spliced in the new plug. I also manually added in a resistor (can't remember how many ohms at the moment). You're right, it's due to the idiot light for...

Best fuel sys alternative, electric vs mech

I would highly recommend running new lines, on whichever side of the car is easiest/closer to the engine. Run a 1/2" supply, and a 3/8" return, and use a return style mechanical pump. Ensure your lines are far enough from the exhaust that you won't have vapor lock problems. **IF** you end up...

    Tachometer Upgrade

I'd like to know this as well. But a factory tach is $200 from Dixie, maybe a cheaper aftermarket one (that drops into the gauge cluster) would be an option for me...

Yea, got a hammer. I can just support the door with some rope from my hoist and knock off the pin, and replace? What's the tool, a chisel??

    Door pins?

Don't have an air compressor, or an air gun. Is my easiest bet then removing the door, such that I can "re-pin" the hinge on my work bench, using my vice, angle grinder, etc etc?

    Door pins?

Ok, going to do this now. Is the best way to go about doing this: - Use an engine crane to hold door up - Unbolt hinges from body of car. - Move door outwards slightly - Remove hinges from car door. - Cut off and remove pins, replace pins - Bolt new hinge back on door - Bolt hinge (door...

    CD player size?

aww crap. So what year of cars can I steal the trim plate from? ie, can I get it from something that isn't a Monte Carlo, since those seem to be rare like hens teeth in boneyards here. I guess it's either that, or using my die grinder and sharpie and hoping for the best eh?

    CD player size?

ok guys, bought a kit just like that, and shoe horned it in there. Apparently covered all GM's in my date range, but when I opened the box, 86-88 Monte, but not the '85... Oh well, did it up for an '85, and now i'm stymied. I've attached a picture of this sitting in the spot, however the brown...

    CD player size?

Ok, thanks guys. I'm intimately familiar with those kits, from my other mid '80's GM's that i've owned. I now realize the obvious (that I had forgotten before) - The old tape deck will be removed, kit (as pictured) installed, and cd player installed. New trim kit will be IN FRONT OF existing...

    CD player size?

If using a single DIN (or 1.5 DIN), I trust there exists a single panel that would cover the entire area then?

    CD player size?

Hey guys; I noticed these cars have a very large trim panel around the tape deck area (1985 Monte Carlo non SS). It's that classy plastic wood. I'm wondering, if I get a cd player, does the aftermarket have a basic trim panel to cover the entire area smoothly, or can I/do I have to, use a...

    Door pins?

Well, it's hard to close (slammy time eh?). I'll try new pins first and go from there. Thanks

    Door pins?

Hey guys; As an owner of an '82 Trans-am, i'm familiar with GM heavy 2 door cars from the '80s. So is the cure similar to the trans-am? ie, Can I just buy a "HELP" brand door pin(s) kit and install the pin and bushings ($10 or whatever) and be cured and happy? Or am I stuck buying new...

1985 Monte Carlo - new user

Thanks for all the help guys! axisg - Thanks for the links. Looks like Dixies or whatever it is has a repo gauge cluster for these cars (can't get that for a Camaro, just so you guys know...) But it's $900 !?? hahah, going to have to skip that one. I might fab one up, which is common on...

1985 Monte Carlo - new user

Thanks AxisG. The 350C isn't one i'm familiar with. Is that just a TH350 with a pneumatically controlled lockup, or is it a totally different animal? Or is an electronic lockup? Yep, I am Canadian - i'm in Calgary AB. ok, well if anyone knows of a place to buy a drop in cluster replacement...
