    Having a few (more) problems

Have never messed with a factory tach, but I doubt there is a switch like on aftermarket tachs to set it for 4,6,8 cyl. I would think you would just have to run some ype of resistor or device to make it work with a V8 - or find one out of a V8 cutlass and swap them out.

    Having a few (more) problems

Also I was just watching your "idle check" video and it appears your tach is still calibrated for a 6 cyl not a V8 either that or you have an exremely quick revving V8 -- :D

    Having a few (more) problems

There should be a metal vacuum line running down the passenger side of the transmission that hooks to a "module" close to the rear of the transmission just above the transmission pan. The other end should go onto a vacuum port on the intake manifold just behind the carb. EDIT: Vera was a...

    sbc 350??

NO! and make sure you check the numbers as alot of those trucks had 305s and craigslist people love to pawn 305s off as 350s

    Shes alive!

Glad to hear that. You should be able to find a good quadrajet at any salvage yard. You need to get your fan shroud back on also. Check and make sure your transmission fluid is full (engine warm and in park).

    Strange Ticking

I had a 73 olds Omega with a 350 that did the same thing. I changed the oil and it went away, and they after about 3K miles it would come back again. I used it as my oil change indicator ... who needs a sticker on your window when your engine knows best -- LOL

    FedEx package....

I worked at UPS (been many years ago) during the Christmas rush (they pay very well for temp help) and everything is about time, not how the packages are taken care of. Things would get stepped on, thrown, smashed, etc etc and would still be loaded on the truck (let the driver fill out the...

    g-body killed him

Well I wouldn't say killed him but glad he beat the stang. Definately would have been alot closer if the driver of the stang handn't missed a gear. Bet they took that little ford engine home and changed out a few of the valves after overreving it and bouncing a few off the pistons -- LOL...

Second time starting my new motor

Sounds really good! I wouldn't start it and let it idle like that with the a flat tappet cam until you get do a proper cam break in, or you will be pulling the nice sounding engine apart and replacing the cam.

    78 malibu fix-it ticket

Not sure in Texas, but in MO I was told that anything 1980 or older did not have to retain the converter for inspection purposes. 1981 and up (ODB1) can be failed if the catalytic converter is not installed.

    G Body's "NOT" a Muscle Car

They classify a Polara as a "Muscle Car" and not GBodys :wtf: -- I think I would find a new place to cruise and patronize

    Problem, Knocking..continue

I would think backfiring through the carb would be a timing issue. Don't just start chasing "gremlins" with cash -- it will empty your pockets quickly.

    Vortec heads

Truck (vans) only from what I have read and found in the scrap yards.
  18. maddog20_20

    Vortec heads

as long as they are 906 or 062 casting they will go on just about any SBC - on a 400 the steam holes would have to be drilled
  19. maddog20_20

    Vortec heads

96-99 truck engines. The casting numbers end with 906 or 062. So when you open the hood of a 2000 or newer chevy pickup and see "vortec" on the engine cover and see aluminum heads, that is a whole different critter. You will have to get a new intake manifold for vortec heads as there are only 8...
