84 TransAm the guy told me it had a 12bolt rear end, then I come on here and ran search but it wasnt listed as one of the 3-4 cars in that post. I could just go back there and get under the car I guess, but it's not really worth it b/c its so far away from here. rather just ask you all. I can get this car for like a grand and according to that post I was talking about some users said the rear end is worth that much w/ posi in it. I felt kind of bad trying to grab this car from the dude because he has a nicer 88 v6 Firebird r next to it and was hoping someone would finish his project and there I was thinking of canibalizing his car for the rear end/ engine and 700r4  (interior was really bad)

anyway I had assumed it was the 7.5'' rear when I pulled up and checked it out - is that actually correct?

you guys probably think im retarded^ the car was in the weeds and we only drove it a block and put it right back b/c it was so low on gas thats why I didnt just manually check =/

I can almost guarantee that is definitely has a 7.625 10 bolt... I'm 99.9% certain that's the only rear that was ever available in the 3rd gen F body.

Even the 1st and 2nd Gen are almost entirely 10 bolt rears either the 8.2 or 8.5 variety, though some did come with 12 bolts, my boss says his uncle has a 72 Trans Am 455 HO rotting away in his back yard that has a 12 bolt in it. And a 455 and 4 Speed trans... Who just lets a car like that rot away in the weeds?

unless its aftermarket, its most likely a 7.5/7.625 10 bolt. some of those cars came with a borg warner 9 bolt but never a 12 bolt

no reason it can't have an aftermarket 12bolt. but NOTHING but trucks would have had one stock in the 80's. tell you the truth, i'm not even sure if the trucks still had them.
