I just got a 383 stroker 425hp 450tq, is a 130 gph electric fuel pump to big for this engine. also its got a 750 carb

X2.

My rule of thumb is GPH at the pressure you are running x 4 = HP it will support.

Use x5 if you use a return type system.

That 130 is free flow that means nothing, most likely flows about 110 @ 5 psi.

So with a deadhead reg it will support 440 hp.

With a return style 550 hp.

Check the flow chart for the pump for actual numbers and do a little math. 😀

It's fine, just keep your fuel pressure at about 4.5 psi for the street.

@ shotgun, you always provide some good info here. I just replaced my deadhead style reg. for a Mallory bypass style reg. I'm just waiting on fittings and line to finish it up.

@ Qdud24 how is your cutlass project coming along for you?

I got it running just about A-1. Almost ready to start on its cosmetics. I still have to do something with my rearend though.

83bonne, who's pump?

uneek1976, after you get it plumbed, first just fire up the pump and check for leaks and look down the carb and make sure she is not dumping fuel. A friend and a flashlight help here.

Next, with the car still off, crank out the allen head screw on the top of the reg. Note: it can come out and will not spray fuel all over.

You are checking the systems flow, your pressure gauge should read 3 psi or lower. If it is higher then that you have a flow restriction somewhere in the system.

If it passes, set the pressure to 5.5 to 6.5 psi and lock down the nut. Now you can fire her up. Double check the pressure running but it should not have changed more then 1/2 a #. Reset if needed.

Let us know how it goes.
