looking for comments "positive or negitive" on monte carlo fiberglass. looking for bumbers and trunk lid. this is for a race car. pictures are a plus. already have a glasstek hood. they are only 10 miles away from me. waiting for vfn to return my call. they dont show trunk lid for the 78-80 body.

ill be going that route soon.

How do you like the hood? any issues? what did it run you?

glasstek hood is in good condition. all fiberglass products need work. the more you pay for quality the more you save on block sanding later. it's nice to save money , but you'll pay later with extra body work trying to get something flat. we picked up the hood off of craigslist for only $100. the person found it in storage locker and did not know what it would fit. i'm only 10 miles away from glasstek and 30 miles from vfn. i think both of these companies are the best when it comes to top quality fiberglass. my problem is neither place makes a trunk lid for the 78-80 monte carlo.

how much lighter do you need to be, the trunk lid is already aluminum and is extremely light.
i have not seen any vendor reproducing fiberglass bumpers, some company had front fenders but there were not complete bolt on fenders, only outer skins

i remember seeing a place that sold the fenders and the trunk lid.

The body parts and pretty light to begin with.

with the chassis being only 24" wide and the rest is tire. i do not have room to move the trunk hinges inboard. i dont want to butcher the aluminum trunk lid that is on the car now with dzus fastners. weight is not a problem. i would rather see someone else use the aluminum trunk lid.

I have a fiberglass hood from so-called "showcars" it is the biggest piece of crap i have ever seen!
I will NEVER buy anything from them ever again!

The hood is soooo far out of shape its not worth the hours needed to get it near any kind of shape to paint, the underneath has holes in the fiberglass and is hacked up and uneven, the braces are uneven, the latch area is not there, there is no reinforcement of any kind where the latch would possibly go, the bolt holes for the hinges are for 9/16" diameter threaded bolts, you would have to enlarge the holes in your factory hinges so far to get bolts into them. the ends of the hood are frail and were never completely coated in the resin. the edges where the hood lays on top of the fenders are so messed up you would have to cut 3/4" off of them to get them to some what fit.

the only reason i bought the hood was because i won it off ebay for $80 shipped, it took a month to get it, since they are out of candada. i told them all of the issues with the hood and the owner of the company laughed at me and said the hood was fine when it left the company.

i pity anyone that would ever buy anything from that company

BTW, the pictures they show for the parts on their website are not of the actual parts they sell, they come from other fiberglass companies

78MC-BBC, thanks for letting me know. I have never bought anything from them but I have been to their shop and they have quite a set up and a good selection of car parts hanging around. It looked legit to me and have been in business for years but seeing your experience with them I won't be posting their link in the future...

anytime, i just wouldn't want you to spend the cash for something that is really a POS. i'm stuck with needing a cowl hood on my 78, but because of the cost shipped for one, i'm thinking of just installing my old school twisted style torker manifold to get the carb to sit below the hood line and put on a stock hood
