Thanks for the add. I'm new to this forum. I've been looking and searching and can not find the answer. Will a 1979 442 hatch back rear bolt into my 1984 Hurst Olds?

yes, but driveshaft length may be different.

Are you stripping an aero 442?
No it's a
Is there a problem w/ the 8.5?? Fix it instead of putting a 7.5 in it.
i bought the hurst without the factory rear in it the guy I bought it from said I could have the rear out of a 1979 442 hatch back he said it is an 8.5 373 posi and should go right in. I'm not to sure if the rear is an 8.5 though.

No the guy I bought the hurst from is and he said the stock rear from the 442 aero is an 8.5 posi 373 but I'm not to sure about that. I don't believe they came with that option. Do you know if they did. I can't find too much info on these cars.

That 79 rear isn't an 8.5 unless it was swapped. If you go from an 8.5 to a 7.5 you will a driveshaft that's 1 inch longer than what came in the 84 H/O. All that being said it is a direct bolt in after you get the driveshaft situation taken care of.

Alright thanks for the help

79 rear will have SAE studs rather than the metric studs used after 81, so you'll have metric stud rotors and SAE stud rear axles, unless you swap to early model rotors or later axle shafts. The knurl diameter on the studs is different as well, and can be tough to find a stud that will fit the axle shaft.

As mentioned above, no G body was factory-built with an 8.5 rear prior to the 1984 model year
