For years my stock wheel covers ticked louder and louder. Tightening the teeth on them did little good. So I decided to go another route. I went to my local hub cap dealer to see if I could find any of the 1979 poverty caps. They had three and they were in bad condition. Looked like they were aluminum and had turned white with age and had many dents. I found some older Buick small caps that looked really good and bought them. I think they were used from the 1960's through the early 1970's and were much better looking than the 1979 small caps. The original black wheel paint was thin so I had to paint the wheels. I went to Home Depot to see what I could get. I decided on Valspar Satin Royal Gernet which would look OK with the Light Yellow and Dark Gold color combo on the car. But for some reason there was something missing. I went on eBay and found a set of new chrome wide wheel trim rings and they did the trick. Everyone seems to think that combination looks real good now. The car is basically stock except for the new caps, trim rings and wheel color.
I hope I can attach photos to this message including one showing the original full wheel covers.

This is what the small caps looked like without the trim rings.

Back in 2010 I was running spoke wheel covers but they are difficult to clean so came off after three months.

That 'look' is beautiful with the body style and color combination. Very classy in an understated way.

I had the same caps on a '71 Buick Skylark. I like the caps without the trim rings, but that's my preference.

Why people call them "poverty" caps is beyond me. I think the term "dog dish" does not sound as derogatory...again, my opinion.
