Can anyone help me confirm that a 1988 Monte Carlo rear end will "bolt right in" to a 1980 El Camino? AND: If so, what do I need to make the attached and included rear disk brakes work in place of the existing drums?
Thanks everybody!

An '88 Monte rear end is a direct bolt in ( it's actually an '87- they made too many and just re-named them '88 to get rid of them). They did not come with disk brakes, so if the rear you are looking at has them, they were added. The brake part will work with your stock brake booster and proportioning valve ( at least mine did). You will have to come up with a method to make the parking brakes work if they are so equipped.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I just "assumed" on the disks being it was near a decade after my version.
Thanks again!

Be aware that if the rear is from a Monte SS, it should have 3.73 gear ratio. Posi was an option- may or may not have it. If the rear is from an Non-SS monte, the ratio will be much lower- you will have to check. 3.73 will give you rpm's well over 3000 at cruising speed, so a 4 speed auto would be a good match.

Thank You, the guy says it is out of a 1988 LS Monte with Posi I don't have the tag numbers yet but I think a posi will say TH??. It will be behind a 700r4. Replacing a 2.?? ratio rear end that drops out of 1st at about 28 mph with the heaviest govenor (I'm looking for a tach that will fit in the old clock hole) and is a bit of a dog out of the hole.
