My 5.0L 305cid V8 giving me issues today. Was driving on open highway at about 50 miles per hour, suddenly it lost compression and started smoking, then it seem to get over the problem and went back to normal. Three miles down the road it did it again except this time it barely would move had to get over to the shoulder. Checked the oil seem to be a half quart low. It appears there was some oil around one spark plug see photo. I ended up having a flatbed pick it up and bringing it home. after getting it home, it started right up and I backed it off the flatbed.

Any ideas???

The frame/a arm/front shock mount looks wet but I don't see why that would be coming out of a spark plug hole. Can you trace where that oil is coming from? Was it smoking out of the exhaust or from under the hood?

Well as it turned out the problem was the catalytic converter was stopped up which was causing the oil to push out the dipstick, hence all the oil on the shock mounts. It was so stopped up there was no daylight. Running super again after having it replaced. Thanks for your replies.

Check your transmission fluid. I have seen the vacuum modulators fail that allow fluid to be pulled into the engine intermittently. Creating white smoke and contributing to cat failure
