Hello- I want to get the motor to run with no ECM. can anybody tell me what this project entails? what new parts i'll need? i dont care about emissions or any accessories except lights, blinkers, and wipers. car was immaculate until a relative attempted to start tearing it down to make drag car. he didn't get very far and gave up. there's no ECM and alot of wires are either cut or missing under dash . if i can get it running for a few hundred dollars, and i mean bare essentials, i'd be a happy camper. need something to get to work. regal got stolen on saturday. i want to correctly restore this riviera eventually, but for now transportation is the priority. I can figure out the lights and wipers and stuff using painless harness given to me by above mentioned relative that he planned on using----but not exactly sure what i need to get in order to run motor with no ECM. thank you.

I think i learned what i need to know reading thru some threads on this forum. just wondering now- is there any way to set up the CCC carb to use without ECM? is it even worth it to try to rig linkage etc..?

i have a similar issue, i have a 85 rivi that came from arizona, clean as can be. the emissions are stripped and i would like to pull the ecm all together but i am worried about the transmission electrical hookups. i want to throw a non electronic carb and a vacume advance distributor so the transmission is the only thing to figure out

running with no ecm

all you have to do is get a regular HEI vacuum advance distributor ($90 at summit) a non computer carb, and a torque converter lockup relay.

I have a 200r4 in my monte and no computer. I simply bought:
the B&M Converter Lockup Controls
Torque Converter Lockup Kit, Mechanical Speedometer, GM, 700R4/ TH350C/ 4L60/ 200-4R, Kit
summit number: BMM-70244

are you sure? the 80's cars used the computer to control spark advance and knock control along with mixture control in the carb. if you remove the ecm the spark timing will be stuck at your base timing-usually 4*btdc and the carb will go to full rich mode. yiu can drive it, just with no power--it's usually called "limp home mode".

Well you obviously have to change the dist. and carb as already mentioned. But I was giving my input on controling the lockup converter.

Without the ECM you won't have function of the EGR valve though, which can cause higher combustion chamber temperatures. The ECM controls an electric EGR valve solenoid on these cars. It's not a necessity, just thought I'd mention it.

To fix that you just get a cooler thermostat.
