Im new to this whole fourm thing so i guess ill start off with what I'm doing. I bought a 85 cutlass supreme body with no motor or transmission. So I've had it for about a year now I'm 17 with no job so progress has been slow. I got tired of the car sitting so i went out and bought a good running Chevrolet 305 out of a 76 camaro for 40 bucks. Can you say a steal then I got a 200 transmission out of a caprice just to move the car around. Motor just isn't fast enough for me so i been stripping the car all the interior is out but seat and dash. I plan on having a street runner with a sbc 350 and a 700r. Can't say all the goodies. But here are some pics for now please help with ideas...

hows the underneath of the car look? the body looks solid and straight from that picture. im currently sourcing a 350 to build a 383 for my car. not sure what transmission is going behind it yet i think i might go manual. my dad has a rock crusher under the bench at our house i might try to buy off him

The bottom looks pretty clean I only had to clean out the fuel tank but that's normal after a car sits for years

Welcome! You'll learn a lot just by taking that car apart.

The junkyard is your friend - you could probably score some bucket seats, wheels, other stuff too. LOTS of Camaro/Firebird stuff fits these cars.

Stripped interior sucks and only knocked off a few pounds almost no performance improvment. That only slightly helps a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder that has no torque. But swapping in a 3.42/3.73 rear drum to drum from a salvage MCSS would be night and day. For just a drag toy a th350 is the bang for the buck. But if you want to drive it (without an interior?) than an overdrive trans for a fast well geared car is the sh*t.

But why make due with a 700-R4 and have to have a drive shaft cut etc to make it work when you can find a drop in 200-4R with a better gear spread for the same money. Its what GM put in the 442, Grand National, & MCSS. BTW welcome and stick around there is lots of experience on here that will save you frustration & expenses and get you the answers and results you want. Benefit from the been there done that crowd and help other when you can. 8)

Great job on finding one cheap and with a hard top and ralleys to boot.

PS There is a lot of hacks & bullshiters out there that ill advise on crap they only act like they know what they are talking about. Run it by the forum and bad information will quickly get smashed.

Thanks for the information can you tell me if i can put a disk brake camaro rear end in my car without having to cut anything other than brake lines I want to put like 3/73 gears in a posi rear end... Thanks

Can you swap a Camaro rear under your car. Not to my knowledge or at least not without major surgery. We have an unusual length drum to drum. Although the gear may work in your rear but that is generally a lot more problematic, work, and often more expensive then the ideal easy cheap idiot proof way I suggested. You can have your local salvage yard do a yards computer search for you and or try www.car-parts.com as well as CL and the for sale sections of this forum and other gbody inclusive forums. Also some used places that specialize in supporting gbody cars such as www.gbodyparts.com.

Last you can look for an 8.5 gbody rear but they are scarce and expensive. Also some drivetrain rear end specialist shops found on the internet build or sell parts to custom build a Ford 9 or GM 12 bolt to fit our cars. Generally expensive and intrusive but for those building a serious drag car.
