1986 Cutty

Alternator not charging for my 1986 cutlass with brand new alternator giving out the right voltage and brand new red top battery . I have a 3 wire plug in it I can’t seem to find the wire that charges the alternator any suggestions???

There should be a brown wire that goes through the gauge cluster and idiot light. That attaches to the thinner wire on the end. The larger gauge wire attaches to the battery positive terminal on the alternator. Hope this helps. The middle wire is unhooked on mine, charges as it should.
