1986 Pontiac 2+2 information

There is a good article on the 2+2 in the March 2007 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine. According to the article, PHS indicates that there were 1,225 2+2s built in 1986. The RPO code for the 2+2 package was Y97. I own a 2+2, and I can tell you from the ones that I've seen, that there should be a small pouch that hangs from the bottom side of the trunk lid that carries the service parts ID tag and the car jacking instructions, and the Y97 code should be listed on the SPID label to identify the car as a genuine 2+2. As far as I know, there were only 1 or 2 cars that were factory built with the 2+2 nose, but without the aero rear window, and these were built with the wraparound rear spoiler similiar to the GTA spoiler, and the cars were painted in a maroon colour, instead of the factory silver/gray colour scheme. There was a picture of one of these cars in one of the Pontiac magazines several years ago at a Pontiac show in the States. I believe that the one or two cars were specially built for GM executives, and that one of these cars belongs to GM historical services. Also, as far as I've been able to determine, the production numbers break down to 1,118 2+2s built for sale in the States, and 107 2+2s built for sale in Canada. The car I have was built at the GM plant in Ste. Therese Quebec. Lauren Engineering in the States does produce parts that would allow people to "clone" one of these cars. The thing to watch for is that the original nosepiece is made from urethane, and is flexible, while the repro part is made from fiberglass. Also the original rear windoes are made from glass, while the repro part is made from Lexan. If someone is selling a 2+2 that is a notchback car, I would definitely insist on seeing documentation, to determine if the car is the real deal before laying out any money for it. I hope this helps.
BTW, the car that I have is going up for sale. Its a bodyman's special (it has rust issues-Ontario car). Asking $2,500.00 OBRO. Will not ship-local pick up in Ontario only.
