hi guys names Dylan im from long island new york. started my first build ever and was wondering if you guys had any input. i built a 86 regal starte dout with a 307 olds. and a th200 bought the car for 350 sold the motor and transmission for 200 so i basically got the car for 150 bucks. built an 11.5 to 1 comp. 383 sbc 540 lift cam with 236 dur. edlbrock victor jr. intake and a holley 650 double pumper, and hooker super comp headers. electric fan, no a.c. transmission is a th350 with b &m shift kit and 3500 stall. was just wondering how you guys think the car will perform. right now has stock open 308 but im switching to a 8.5 with 373s in the next week. car hasnt been tuned yet. will post pics when i have more time thank you to anyone who can help me out.
I take it this is more of a drag car street toy.
I think for actually driveing it other than a lil hot rodding in town that the longer stroke 383 & 3 speed transmission will like the 3.08 gear a lot better than the 3.73. The 3.73 will be a lil quicker but with the lower rpm torque of the 383 it will like the 3.08 better. Same could be said about the stall but again if you are just useing it to hot rod around town its great. I presume that she has aluminum heads as if she actually has a measured 11.5-1 she probably won't like pump gas even with that cam. Should definately be a quick fun toy. I would leave the slicks off till you have the 8.5 in. Have fun.
cast iron heads runnin it on cam 2 for now. you are correct in your assumption that the thing will see very little street time. im just wondering what suspension work will have to be done to get the car into the 11's car is stripped. and right now weighs about 3000 lbs with me in it.
Well you might get their just on slicks but at very least you should do lower control arms, an air bag in your passenger side rear coil, and a posi or good limited slip. Avoid Auburn cone style junk. Ideally at some point you would also do double adjustable upper arms and maybe some adjustable drag shock up front. At that point properly adjusted your suspension will plant the tires as hard as possible with even distribution an lift the front of the car for maximum weight transfer. The adjustable uppers helps alot by being able to set your pinion angle so she shoves the tires in the ground instead of lifting the rear and unloading the tires.
i am currently running hypereutetic pistons while running cam2 would i be able to spray it if i beef up the fuel system? also i didnt plan on mini tubbing it but what would be involved?
