1996 Saturn sl1 manual stuck in first gear.

My Saturn is a manual it's stuck in first gear not only that but the shifter is limp and just moves all around as if it's just a stick in a hole. I was pulling out of work and went to put it in second gear and that's when it was as if my shifter was limp. What is this and how much will cost?

a shifter cable can break in a floor shift g-body..the saving grace however is being able to turn the collar on the steering column to change gears..

The cable is not broken. There is a plastic tip that the cable presses on to. Pull top of the console and you will see that it has poped off. Reinstall.
