i have a 1985 monte carlo ss that currently has a 2004r. i want to swap to a TH400 short tail shaft, can you please tell me what is involved or needs to be modified other than the shifter and speedo.

Drive shaft needs to be shortened.

You'll also need a TH400 yoke. You can use the stock cross member. But, if you want dual exhaust, you'll need an aftermarket one like G Force or you can fab one. BTW, you need to shorten the drive shaft 3/4 of an inch.

Why are you downgrading transmissions?

He is probably building a drag car where it does not matter. That or he simply may not have enough money to rebuild the 200-4R to hold up to a new powerplant and has access to cheap th400 that does not need rebuilt.

new power plant will be 355ci sbc, Turbonetics 60-1 HiFi turbo, 10-12psi. th400 trans. rear diff plans include a 9", but not right away. will be street car. yes i will sell 2004-r, and will also have O.E. ac parts, P/S pump and SS gear box

Very cool. What kind of power do you expect to make with the turbo? 10-12 psi Is that on pump gas? Are you going to use an intercooler, methanol injection, a blow thru carb what kind of set up spill it man inquiring minds want to know.
