my plan for my ride is a set of 390 gear for my rear with a th350 i have 2 th350's both need rebuild but thinking going with 4:10 's with an overdrive trans so the quest is [1] what hp/tq rating can these o/d transmission's take [2] what would have to be done for either to handle 400 + hp and 400 + t/q {3} i have a new G-force crossmember made for a th350 could it be modified for these 2 trans {4} trans length and spline now with the th350 and a G/N 8.5 rear what would need to be done as far as drive shaft lenght and yoke i believe my drive shaft currently measures approx 51" forgot to mention i dont use this car on the track its street but i will lay into it thanks

you sure you want that high a gear for the street?
both transmission are known for blowing up under power. the 200r4 is the most well known for it from people improperly adjusting the TV cable. but GM mechanics all remember the 700 more because it just broke. the newer ones of both were MUCH better but they still need a good performance rebuild to eliminate the weak spots.

thanks for the info i will stick to the 390's and th350 i figured with the 4:10's and overdrive it would run ok aggressive in the city etc thanks again

Since you are already sportin' a TH350, I'd go to a built 200 4R as it will bolt in. You will need a TV cable and mount for your carb, and a way to look up the converter if you wish to retain the loo up feature.

You will need an experienced trans builder to get a unit to survive that much power but it is being done regularly. Check out the forum over at Trans Talk

There are several builders in your area that post over there. It isn't cheap to build one but you will get overdrive.
