i just picked up an 84 regal and was stoked to see it had a r4 as i have a 3.73 posi waiting to be put in something, now i drove the car home and it seems a bit soft in shifting into 2nd and 3rd..i have not driven a car before with a 200r4 so im unfamilliar with it. i have another regal with a t350 and maybee a light shift kit and its shifts way snappier..which i would expect with a shift kit, both cars have a 4brl 305..im wondering if the transmission shifts soft in stock form?..maybee a shift kit or correction kit?..or bigger problems

Probably normal. There were several different calibrations for the 200-4R. The personalities varied widely depending on the application. Most were pretty lazy while the GN and SS shifted a bit firmer and later. Might be helpful to get the code (2 letters) from the metal tag at the rear of the case and look it up.
