a turbo 350 or 400 should bolt right up to my stock chevy 305 in my 86 cutlass. someone correct me if im wrong?

There are Chevy pattern 350/400 transmission's and there are B-O-P 350's (not sure about the 400's). A BOP 350 will bolt up but not all bolt holes will line up. Only 4 of the 6 will go in. I believe the trans mounting is differant and needs a differant crossmember.

Just curious as to why you'd want to go to a 350/400. The 200R4 has a better 1st gear (2.7x vs 2.52) plus it has an OD that the others don't have. If your 200R4 needs rebuilding and you have a good 350 I could see that.

thats why. transmission is slipping real bad and is jumping in and out of overdrive. going to get a transmission flush and filter and mess around with the kickdown cable to see if i can get the summer out of it. but i have a chevy turbo 350 that i will probably drop in it soon. but thats what i thought. should bolt up.

There are are B-O-P 400's too.

There are also uni-bell th350s .... one that came out of my 81 was universal. I'd 2nd having the 200-4r rebuilt, but if you have the th350 and the xmember - go for it. Just remember you won't need the TV cable's bracket anymore (th350 uses a modulator) and I do believe the cable bracket on the pan is different. You can reuse your driveshaft and dipstick tube, but will need to bend new cooler lines and I beleive a brand new trans mount (if not 100% needed/highly suggested). You will have to check and see if the speedo gear is correct for your rear gear (I doubt but weirder things have happenned).
