I have a crappy 2.29 open diff in my cutlass, but we have an old sonoma sitting on our yard that has a GU6 (limited slip) G80 (3.42) gears in it. The axles look the same, but the only difference is that the truck uses leaf springs. Is it possible to take out the internals from the truck and put them in my cutlass rear end? I've read that the limited slip components can snap easily if theres any real power going through it...is this true? Do you think it would be a good idea? Thanks

count the splines on the axles yours are 26 if the truck is the same then you can use them if indeed it has a 7.5 ring and pinon but if your going to all that trouble then you should just look for a monte carlo rear from 83-85 those are 3:42 and some are posi and you can get them cheap

Yeah, the G80 Code is a Gov Loc. It acts like an open rearend until you have some slip then it locks up. People love them or they hate them. I just replaced one in my daily driver. They typically stop working altogether, if your going to go to all the trouble of swaping out the internals buy a limited slip carrier and you will be good to go.
