try another can of top engine cleaner. it works the best when it sits in the motor, after you stall it.

did you check your egr valve?

I did let the engine cleaner sit in the engine after it stalled for about an hur and a half so i think i;ve gotten all i will out of that for now, can anybody else support the egr vavle causing it, i double checked to make sure the vaucumn line was connected to the egr and it was, if this is a serious possibility i may go ahead and replace my egr seeing as its really easy to do.

on a side note i am replacing one of my tires which i think may have been the culpret of my rattling car, i jacked it up with a corw bar about half an inch from the tire and spun it and the distnace between the bar and the tire was changing so i figure some of the metal bands in the tire have broken (these are very very old tires that probably needed replacing anyways with dryrot galore)

ok i found this little tid-bit in an auto repair manual for 81-83 HEI-EST distributor set-ups

"The ESC sensor is accelermeter or magneto-strictive device, mounted on the block. It detects presence, or absence, and intensity of detonation by vibration charcteristics of the engine. The sensor's output is an electrical signal which is sent to the controller. A failure of the sensor would allow no retard"

" The distributor is an HEI EST unit with an electriconic module modified so that it can respond to ESC controller signal. The comand is delayed when the detonation is detected, providing the level of retard required. The ammount of retard is determined by the severity of detonation"

so it appears that looking into the ESC sensor would be a smart idea

all you have to do to test the esc sensor is hook up a timing light and run the motor ,take a small hammer and tap the engine near the sensor. the timing should retard.... if not it's bad.....jesse

where exactly is the esc sensor, does anybody have any diagrams of sorts

also i was looking for new esc sensors and couldn't find any so if anybody knows where to get one for an 82 3.8 that would help me if i do need one

my guess would be timing, try a new coil, or new distributor all together....

umm ya im not trying to be an *ss here but you didn't read any of this thread and I thought you would have known that the 80's gbody used a non-mechincal ditributor. And anyways i had taken my distributor cap off today and it appeared that my distributor was fairly new

ok os i took my car to my school last few days

no esc sensor so theres nothing to do there

took my egr vale out and the smaller port was filled with gasoline? neither of my auto teachers had much of an idea of what was happening but I'm going to use the spray combustion cleaner in there and get a new egr valve since their cheap anyways...

My Buick ping bad one day last and I found later the wife had put in some cheap gas(87).I had bumped the timing up alittle so it pinged. It fixed it self with some higher octane gas and turn the timing back a little. We are lucky up here in Canada we never had all the electric crap on the carbs and disturbers.
