Shotgun is right. I ran into this issue when I first yanked the 301 out of my GP for a 400. If I recall, all of the other accessories worked out ok. It was just the A/C that did not.

I thought I recognised you Shotgun. I am Dim Bulb and was MB for years. Rich has done a lot lately on CP. Not trying to hijack the topic, but let me tell you guys- Shotgun knows his stuff. The traditional Pontiacs have a 1 inch taller deck height than the 301, hence, most brackets are different not to mention the air pump setup and all that goes with that. I gave up trying to fit 400 stuff on my 301's and vice-versa so now I save all the brackets I can for both series motors.

Hey, not sure if this will help, but here's a pic under the hood of my '80. I assume you have all the info you need already, what with the schematics & other useful info from the other guys.

Safariwagon, which compressor are you using- A-6 or R-4? A-6 brackets are pretty common on tons of Pontiac V-8's. The little R-4 is kind of hard to come by as it only came on certain 301's. It may be a chore getting it to fit a 400. I was able to use my Buick 231 R-4 on my 301 since I had most of the brackets from another motor except the valve cover bracket which Shotgun graciously sold me and now I'm complete.
