I have a 1988 cutlass supreme with the original 307 and 200 metic overdrive transmission. my ouestion is how well does the 307 run? my does not want open the two back barrels of the carb when I gas it up, the motor isnt revving like it should. I first was thinking it may have jumped time so I changed the gears and chain and it had a few weardown plastic teeth, but nothing to make it jump time. I got it from my friends mom and she had the spark plugs changed 8 times lol so she was thinking it lacking power. the car only has 87xxx miles

No wonder why it doesnt make any power... that's a serious problem if the secondaries are not opening up... some part of the carb's secondary linkage is either disconnected or jammed.
(Edit: wasnt refering to mechanical linkages, the actual spring-actuated-linkage mechanism that opens the secondary throttle blade can jam, rare but have seen it once before).

If you have never worked on a carb before and this is your primary car, you should have it rebuilt by a good carburetor shop or purchase a rebuilt one at your local NAPA.
You need an E4MC Quadrajet...

Can you post some good close up pictures of your carburetor? Maybe we can see the problem.

Does it have the stock air cleaner? or an aftermarket one?

Unlike a mechanical secondary carb, the 2 large air doors on the rear of a Q-jet carb will open on engine demand. You may not be able to see them open unless the engine is under load and pulling a lot of air. There is also an adjustable spring tension on the air door that should be adjusted to keep the doors closed. Note that If the spring tension is too loose and the doors open to easily it can cause a severe bog off the line. Most poeple unfamiliar with Q-jets reduce the spring tension and cauase more issues. Make sure the choke is working properly. There is an interlock on the passenger side of the carb that prevents the secondaries from opening up when the choke is on.
