i wanted to switch my 307 w/ 7a heads to a SBC either 305 or 350 because of the large amounts of cheap speed parts i drive a 1986 cutlass supreme w/ a 307 7a heads open air cleaner hallow cat with flow master dual out rear muffler and B&M z gate shifter on my Th350 trans. The headers off a chevy are easier to put on a G-body too so what shold i do and how should i go about doing it? thanks

DON'T go 305 unless you want gas mileage. And even that is not much better if it all. If you're going for mild to high street performance I'd go with a 350. They can be had for relatively cheap and with a few mods can be made into a pretty mean street machine.

I'm not an expert on the4 olds to chevy swaps but I do know you'll need to find a set of motor mount brackets from a chevy powered g body in order to swap the chevy in. Also, I believe the Olds/Pontiac/Buick bell housings have a different bolt pattern than the chevy ones so you'll need a chevy one. Additionally the battery is on the wrong side so you'll have to relocate in order for you to run reasonable lengths of wire to the starter. Also, you'll the factory wiring harness out of a chevy powered g body. It unplugs at the firewall and you can directly swap out your cutlass one with it.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I hope that helped.

See if you can find a 403 out of trans am or 350 Olds.. its a direct swap..with the chevy motor, unless mechanically inclined is alot of swapping part and changing frame motor mounts etc. unless you've done it before or have a donor car
