"Properly"??? I guess a hundred years of V-belts isn't proper?

The problem with getting a true serpentine system is that they use a reverse rotation water pump. The kits that are available for Olds motors (such as from March) use the stock rotation pump and a boatload of idler pulleys to get enough engagement on the pump for the serpentine to work. In my opinion you'll spend a bunch of money for a "serpentine" system that has more parts and more HP drag than the stock V-belts. Your call.

There was ONE reverse rotation waterpump ever made for an Olds motor. It was used on the rare V6 diesel motor offered in the RWD cars for a couple of years in the early 1980s. Good luck finding that setup in a wrecking yard. The pumps fit the Olds gas engines and are available new from Rock Auto and others. You'll need to fabricate the rest of the system.

There are a couple of vendors who use this pump in a true serpentine system for the Olds motors used in the 73-77 GMC motorhomes. These systems run over $1500 and are designed to fit the motorhome engine compartment. The accessories are mounted wide and low - unlikely they will fit in a G-body.

nothing wrong with a v belt system.

however, in ym experience, v belts tend to slip after about 200 amps. i'm going 300 amps, and don't know that a v belt will be able to handle the load.

as far as hp drag, i couldn't care less. this is a low, slow and loud cruiser that i drive daily. fast isn't even a consideration

I dont know if this affects anything, but Joe did not mention that the March kit is designed to fit the 455. I dont know if it will work on a 307 or not.

well, it will affect whether or not i can use it  .

i'll give them a call and see what i can find out.

if nothing, i can eliminate th water pump and get a remote electric pump
