thought i was going to have a 403 but turns out its a 307 with 5a heads, should have looked closer i guess, but anyway, plan to put a comp cam with 268/280 duration with .485/.490 lift with 1.6 rockers, is this more lift than the 5a's can handle and what about piston clearence, and can i use the "9" vin springs, don't plan on running it more than 5000 rpm. any info would be nice.

I do not know for sure what the stock springs can handle but my guess is no they wont work perfect. You can buy complete cam kits from comp that come with springs and all the stuff ya need. As far as piston to valve clearance, you need to measure that. It is not hard and only takes a few minutes.

The "5A" heads can handle the cam, but like Chris said get new springs. Do you plan on shaving the heads and keeping the stock pistons, or are you getting higher compression pstons?

was thinking of trying to get the heads shaved alittle, but then would have to worry about the intake, probably would be cheaper and easier to up the compression with the pistons, looking for about 9.0-1 with .040 over bore, will be happy with about 250-275 hp.
