My brother recently purchased a 1968 327 motor that was professionally built with around 400 hp. He is swapping out his 305HO but wants to keep his stock 200-4r trans. The car is a 1985 monte ss and I thought that i've read that the super sport cars had better transmissions, but can they handle a 327 like this?

It's not for drag racing, but obiously he wants to have some fun kicking my *ss in my 350 regal. Appreciate any help.

I don't think it will hold the 327 if it has that much HP, for a real long time, if he likes to really get on it.

Although, someone else will chime in to agree, or disagree and set me straight.

That sounds like a pretty stout 327 to be putting out 400 hp. If he drives it real nice, that trans will probably hold up. But no hole shots, power shifts, etc. But truthfully, he's going to break it unless that transmission is gone over and upgraded.
Just my $.02.

for the 200-4r to stand that much hp/tq you have to swap out the stator to a hardened one and also the input shaft to a hardened one. and a shift kit would help too.

If its healthy a good shift kit like the one ckperformance.com sells and a large cheap transmission cooler would go a long way to helping it survive. Sometimes CK has them on sale for $100. Beyond that you are geting into a rebuild with more moeny and down time.

Thanks guys,

Does anyone know where they make brackets for power steering and alternator for a motor that doesn't have the accessory holes in the heads?
