Hi Guys

pretty new here, and not a GM expert, Mopar mechanic here, (feel free to make fun of me)

My son has had a 79 Monte Carlo for a few yrs. It has a 200 C.I 3.3 V6 in it, Which must be the red headed stepchild engine, i cant find any info on it anywhere. When i look for parts for it, (intake manifold, etc, i get parts for a rear distributor motor. His has a front mounted distributor, like the Buick/Olds motors, although it looks like the ccar was born with it.

Anyway, its way cheaper to put a 350 in it rather than to rebuild or replace it with another V6.

I am wondering what all i need to do the swap (linkages etc) Not sure what trans it has. I have read they came with TH200 and TH200c's. Will a TH350 fit in the car, would i need a different cross member and other items?

Thanks in advance.

It is really easy to put any SBC in the 3rd gen Monte, parts are literally everywhere for the drivetrain, not so much for the body itself.
I wouldn't bother with the 3.3 in a heavy car, If you have the funds go with a LSx otherwise a small block is mostly a bolt in and go deal. You will need the block mounts and frame pads from a GM car to get it bolted to the frame.
You could already have a TH350 in your car, but if it's a Th200 the linkages, crossmember and driveshaft will fit the TH350.

the 200ci. 3.3 is a chevy motor (rear dist). if the dist. is in the front, you have a 231ci. 3.8 buick motor, which is much more common. maybe someone has swapped in the 3.8 at some time.

heres a sticky on the 350 swap...
