I'm doing a mild build on my 87 Monte S's 350 SBC I have some 14101081 gm headsvortec heads and a Holley street dominator correct intake may change intake not yet sure long tube headers 2.5" exhaust I'm trying to find a good performance cam bigger than rv cam for best performance without having to change my. Converter and etc I'm just shooting for mild built 350 position rear end Turbo 350 transmission need help chime in please

Is it a roller?
Do you know the compression?
Weekend warrior? Daily driver?

A little more info would help in getting better (more specific) suggestions.
Im the type of guy that only wants to change a cam once so I try to get it right the first time.

If you're looking for a cam choice the best thing you can do is email places like Comp, Crane, etc. Get there opinions on what they recommend and look at the options that seem right for you. Then once you have it narrowed down on which ones you like, ask around or look at forums and see what other people have to say that have used the cam. I'm not saying that people on this forum don't know what there talking about but places like Comp have all the information on cams that they sell and can pair you with one that fits your application nicely. But the only true way to know is to actually test a cam but since your looking for something mild your probably not going to go through eight camshafts to find the perfect one.

I recommend a 2-piece timing cover. You can change the cam again later without pulling the engine or dropping the oil pan. I bought a roll of gasket paper and made four spares from the one that was included in the kit. Stashed for later.

Second thought: if you use an aftermarket roller cam, you'll need a cam button to keep the cam in place. On the other hand, factory roller blocks have a lip on the cam nose that fits a retainer plate.

ate to tell ya but those heads are not Vortec heads. Just 305 heads. They may help with compression but that's about it(assuming it is acutally a 350). I'd stay very mild with whatever cam you go with. I'd most likely get rid of the intake as well. Or invest in new heads along with a new cam to open up more choices.

those arent vortec heads... those are 305 heads, 1.8 intake 1.5 exhaust... GUESSING they are probably 58cc...

those heads are the swirl port TPI 305 heads and are 58cc

Dont count them out though, just do a little research on them, my 350 was dynoed (engine dyno) at 403hp and 430tq with 059 "vortec" heads that have been machined for higher lift

i have a set of the 58cc "performance" heads that were on my old 305 with flat top pistons and that little motor ripped for being a 305... was going to use them on my 350 but i had got too good of a deal on etec200's and a performer rpm intake...
