so when i found my monte on pittsbugh craigslist it said it had a 350. the car was located in erie so respectively it was on erie craigslist. the thing that confused me was that the erie posting said ity had a 305. i called on it and he confirmed it was a 305. i didnt really mind. i bought it and a few months later while changing the gas tank i found that it was once fuel injected, the 4.3L. i knew this because the sending unit. the was brake line where the pump should have been!! this got me wondering. today i decided to check the castings and i found i have a 350!!!! i would like to hear anyone else's stories if they have a similar one

Ontario, Canada eh!
Lol dude, you couldn't tell by driving it? I'm thinking a difference of like 80 - 100 horsepower and gobs of more torque. I guess you wouldn't know unless you drove a car with a 305 in it. The 305 has like NO power lol. But it's reliable though

my first car, a 78 Camaro, was sold to me as a "350". When I got home and checked the casting, it was a 305.
I wish that's where the bad news ended... It had after market t-tops, the body mounts were evapourated, and the body twisted like it was doing the limbo. The VIN said it was a 78 Z28 with T-tops, and the body tag said it was an 81 LT Coupe, with no T-tops... sketchy :?:

I was very unknowledgable and all these things I discovered slowly... along with the huge lifter tick, and the undistinguishable sound of a spun bearing.

Still, I learned alot when I rebuilt the Q-jet carb on it and refinished the interior in the car. And aside from all the bad, the car had a very reliable TH350 with a nicely equipped QuickSilver shifter.

Nothing too crazy or anything. Got my 83 cutlass with what I was told a 307...pulled it and found it was a 305. I was puttin in a 350 so it really didnt matter either way.

I just want to point out that no monte or cutlass ever came with a 350, only 231's, 305's and 307's...even 442's, H/O's and SS's came with 305's n 307's, just high output ones

ummm there were intermediate A-body Cutlass with the Olds 350 ... 1979 H/O and the 1980 442 W-30, both had windowed mained 350 SBOs. No 307 existed at the time. The only other gas V-8 was the 260 .... which were Cutlass engines 75-82.

Almost ten years ago, I bought my second A/G body car, a 79 cutlass, advertised with a 350. Bought it for $400, brought it home, a friend of mine stopped over to check out my new rig, lol. He looked under the hood and said wtf is that?!! I replied a 350, he said that doesn't look like any 350 I've ever seen. I Looked under the hood of his (he had a sbc 350), looked at mine, :wtf: , why did mine look so much larger and different? To make a long story short, that's when both of us found out chevy wasn't the only ones who made 350's, haha, (we were just dumb teens at the time  ). After some research I found out that the car came originally with a 260, but someone had put in a 350 olds (77-80 engine).
