So I friend of mine is swapping out an engine said I could have his small block said it will come with intake manifold and hedders I know I have to get new motor mounts and upgrade the radiator and knew starter but what about my alternator and power steering pump. What else would I need for the conversion. Adapter plate for the transmission exhaust of course anything else?

Just get a TH350, short shaft, to replace the TH200c that's in there. They exploded behind 3.8s, dont trust it behind a 350. They're cheap enough, go to a junkyard and take the serpentine setup (take a pic of the setup sticker, if it's still there) and run that. Everthing else, tell the parts stores or sites you have an 87 monte ss with a 305. Makes it easier.

Like MrSony says, a TH 350 would be a good replacement with enough "*ss" to handle the SBC. If you want overdrive capability, the standard tailhousing 200-4R is the same length as the TH350 and will bolt into the same applications. While the 200-4R used to have a bad rep for handling hp, it is not true. I bought one out of Florida (I think) reworked and rated for up to 500 hp. I put it in my 84 Camino behind little 383 making about 440 ft/lbs of torque. It ran strong and problem free till I took the car off the road.

I'm in the process of doing the same swap. 305 Chevy with the standard v-belt set up. I was hoping to re-use the alternator and power steering pump. No go. Re-clocked the alternator and it is larger than a stock Chevy alternator and wouldn't fit the brackets. I removed the pulley and 3.8 bracket from the power steering pump but the pump would not mount on the Chevy bracket and the return line turns out to the front of the pump where the Chevy pump is in the back. Buying an alternator and a pump.
