Just got a 350 small block and I want to put a cam in it with out having to do any thing els ! Looking for a nice rough sound and some more power ! Don't know much about cams !

Any help ? Please

Re: 350 small block cam ?

This question has been asked about 5000 times before and the answer is the same every time; a cam cannot be recommended unless all the relevant info is provided. I could randomly pick out a cam for you though if you wish....

On a related note, 'rough sounding' cams do not mean more power. In many cases you will lose power and can lose ALOT of drivability. A cam needs to work with the rest of your other components.

Re: 350 small block cam ?

Relevant info = stock 350 will be stock for ever, why I slowly work on the car....

Ok so I want a cam with more power for my STOCK 350 small block ! That sounds like it has a cam ! Don't need or want something crazy.... I don't want to do anything els to the motor !!!

Re: 350 small block cam ?

What the heck is a 'stock 350'? You still haven't provided anything needed to pick out a cam. You haven't even mentioned the make of your engine! What year is it? What's the CR? Heads? Exhaust? Gears? Stall ( if automatic )? Does it even have a 4 barrel carb? All this info is needed if one is to pick a cam. 'Stock 350' is almost as vague as asking 'how fast can a blue car go'!

Re: 350 small block cam ?

Anything under .480 lift will wake your motor up. Summit has a good deal on there dual pattern cams .

Re: 350 small block cam ?

Ok a couple questions for you:

What year/ car is it from? Most motors after 87 (if its a chevy) are roller cam motors, this changes things alot.

what heads / compression / valves / etc.. (usually obtainable if you know what year car it came from)

what do you plan on doing with it? Towing? cruising? passing on the highway? drag racing? Just want it to sound good and don't care about performance?

what, if any, modifications does the motor have? Headers? Intake manifold? etc...

I hope I don't sound conceited, its just that picking a cam without knowing any of the above info is pretty much a shot in the dark.

Re: 350 small block cam ?

Also, now that I think about it, if you plan on changing your cam, you are at least going to need a set of lifters too. I would also recommend getting a new timing chain set as well, since the old ones stretch, plus they are cheap enough.

Don't forget to get some of this too http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp+Cams/249/153/10002/-1 ... you cant use enough of this stuff when installing a cam, and you usually get only a tiny bit when you buy a new one.

Ok so this is what I know Goodwrench 350 Small Block Chevy Crate Motor.
I know it has not been touched so what ever they come with is what it has on it !

edelbrock intake and
edelbrock 2 barrel carb

Don't want it to kill gas but want it sound nice and get a little more power !

Re: 350 small block cam ?

youre most likely running either 8.0 or 8.5:1 compression, with relatively small valves and runners. I would put a low-mid rpm cam in there. you dont want to put something too big in there or the motor will get choked up and you will lose streetability. Go for something like this: http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1982&gid=287

that should wake your motor up a bit and still be super streetable. Also, it would work without modifying anything, just be sure to get the lifters as well.

I really like the voodoo cams, I have one in my buick... it really is nice.
