i have a 69 oldsmobile 442 that has a 350 with the #’s 557752 3b. I know this is a 77-80 350 but is it an Oldsmobile motor or a GM - Chevy motor? I was told it was a rocket 350 but I knew from the beginning it wasnt.
Thanks
just wondering for when I buy parts

It is an Oldsmobile 350, also known as a Rocket 350, one in the same. It has awful crack prone 3A heads, weak crank and windowed main webs. Good news, early 330 or 350 heads boost compression and exhaust side flow and will give 9 to 1 compression with reasonable milling with the factory 14cc pistons. Also the factory cam is way too mild to make any power.

What does windowed main web mean?

The easiest way to tell an Olds from a Chevy is the spark plugs being above the exhaust ports on the heads. Works for Pontiac, too. Olds will also have an oil fill tube at the front, left of the intake, in the block. Now, I am far from an expert, but I thought a 69 442 should have the dreaded 400G big block; they may have come with either, I suppose.....

Correct on all points, it should have the tiny bore 400G factory, that was the only engine option.

What did you mean by dreaded 400G big block?
