I've been racking my brain trying to find pistons for my 383 stroker build. Motor so far is a 4.030" 350 block, 3.750" cast crank and 5.7" rods. I'm looking for 9.0 to 1 compression, give or take. My power goals are quite low, around 250hp and 350 lb ft, so I don't really need heavy duty pistons. Any suggestions?

Why are you doing a 383 if your power goals are that low are these rear wheel horsepower numbers? Easily achievable with a stock head 350. What do you mean what type? What size dish to meet your compression or what material, etc? What cc heads are you using and is your block decked at all or are we assuming deck height is your standard 9.025"?

64cc Vortec heads, block is untouched. My goal is a torquey daily driver for my Lemans wagon. I know I need a pistons with a compression height of 1.433" but what sort of dome/dish am I looking for, what cc's do my pistons need to get about 9 to 1 compression.

The closest I could find were Speed Pro H859CP30. They actually have a shorter compression height (1.425") which will drop it below deck slightly but the best thing is - they're cheap. Honestly, you're going to have a tough time getting down to 9:1cr without custom (expensive) pistons while using Vortec heads. The chart showed 9.67cr which will still be OK on pump gas. If you were using 76cc heads you would have a ton of low compression options.

If i can chime in here.

I think you are making a big mistake about going with such low compression. you can get a stock 350 and be miserable with that. If you are going to be doing the work and putting money in a motor i would suggest going with 10:1 compression and a half way decent cam. you will see the torque you are looking for. It will also give some decent selling points to the motor if you ever part with it.

no one will want a low compression motor unless they are looking to throw a turbo or supercharger on it and for that you will need better parts in the lower end anyway.

My main goals are torque, good idle and being able to run 87 octane. Those Speed Pro H859CP30 seem right up my alley.

This sounds just like my engine. Good low end torque, able to run 87 with no problems. Lopey idle, and 10:1 compression for future power upgrades.
