Hi everyone im putting a 400 in my base model monte. Just wandering hp torque o. What i want to do. 406. 10.5 comp with hydraulic roller cam 565 lift and nkb 200 heads. 750 double pumper and roller rockrrs and lifters. Stock rods amd crank 2500 to 3000 converter with 390 gears. Any inputs appreciated

What are the cam specs as far as duration, lobe sep., intake center line? what intake? not familiar with nkb heads?

just researched them on web a little, if the flow numbers are correct i would guess mid to upper 400's on hp and torque with an airgap intake maybe

Thanks for the input in hoping around 500 torque 450 horse

What brand of cam are you thinking? do you know the duration @ .050 lift specs?

looks like a good grind, i would say closer to 500 than 450 on hp. should move out pretty good

Stock SB400 rods are 5.56 in length if your lucky they will live to 5500 rpm.
I have 5.7 Chevy 350 rods in my 406 and have had no problems spinning this combo to 6200 rpm.
They needed only minor clearance grinding at the rod bolts to clear the cam.

That's just my .02!

yes i agree with a longer rod being better for rpm, but on a budget put arp bolts in the bottom will help with more reliability and some piece of mind too if you are set on stock length rods and pistons. That being said upgrading to a 5.7 rod and matching pistons is only around $300 more
