Is a Oldsmobile 403 the same as a Pontiac 403?

I was asking my neighbor yesterday if he knew of anyone with a Oldsmobile 350 and he said no but I have a Pontiac 403 in a Camaro (but he's wanting to sale the whole thing, not just the engine).

Anyway, just curious if the Olds and Pontiac are the same and if you use the same rebuild kit for them?

Ahhh so Pontiac put Olds 403's into their cars ... I just saw that on a few websites. Interesting. So I bet what he means is that he has a 403 (Oldsmobile) but it originally came out of a Pontiac Firebird.

pontiac did install some 403 pontiac engines in some trans am 79-80 ( if i remember well)
that was in the days were they all became corporate engine

remember when GM was sued in 1978-79 for putting 305 chevy engines in cutlass ...then GM declared that they had corporate engines instead of olds ,chevy, pontiac ,buick

like was said above, the 6.6 Firebirds from '77-'79 could be either Pontiac 400, or Olds 403. Yeah, they were Olds motors. The 403 was mainly a California or high altitude thing, for smog reasons iirc, but don't quote me on that!

So probably that 403 that my neighbor is calling a Pontiac, is actually Olds based. So that would mean if I ordered a Olds 403 rebuild kit, and head, ect. it would fit fine?

Not that any of this really matters b/c he's not wanting to sale just the motor alone.

yes exactly ..... it is an oldsmobile engine so you order olds 403 parts
