just curious if any body knows of a universal engine swap kit for a bbo 455 in a 1981 cutlass 2 door and if i need to replace the trans mount for the matching th 400 thx

It depends what engine and trans you have now. If you have a 307, it will drop in. Since I doubt you have a 200-4R trans, the 400 will need a different crossmember. If you don't, you will need the crossmember for a 2004-R trans. You will also need to purchase a frame extension so you will be able to mount the crossmember.

No such thing as a kit like that. The next best thing is to start with a car that had a 260/307 Olds from the factory.

If it's a 3.8 V6 car, you've got some work ahead of you.

As noted, there's no "kit" because you don't need one. The 455 bolts directly to the 307 or 260 motor and frame mounts. It's externally identical except for the taller deck height. Note that even a 200-4R will need significant internal mods to live behind the 455. The TH400 works also, but you'll need the crossmember and frame extension for a 200-4R since the TH400 trans mount is in the same place. The TH400 is longer, so a custom driveshaft is needed, and you'll need the correct front yoke as well. 307 accessory brackets need some minor mods to fit the taller deck of the 455. Use the 455 A-body exhaust manifolds, preferably the W/Z manifolds used on the 69-72 442s (they are available repro now). Get a bigger radiator. Start saving money to replace the 7.5" rear axle when you blow it up.

thank you all for your help it is very appreciated but if i get the 2004r cross member where am i to get the frame extention. and for anyone who thinks this will help the car has a chevy 350 and th350 trans now.

Madison IL,lots of g-bodies lots of junkyards full of parts

so now i have found all the info i needed for the swap but what about headers i dont want to have to go with manifolds

budget friendly headers like flowtechs are a good purchase. If you're on a budget,go with Flowtech ceramic coated headers for a gbody cutlass w/455,at summitracing they're about $200 some,if you're not on a budget,go with Hooker headers, ceramic coating offers less heat and the coating sure as hell won't burn or chip off like painted ones.Summit is the place to look for the headers and also for the transmission crossmember, summit will help you there. The frame extension is sold at summit seperately as for the crossmember, they make different gbody crossmembers for different transmissions (like 4160,2004r,th350,th400,7004r,etc).Hope This Helps

hope you guys don't mind if i ask a few questions as well. I have an 86 cutlass supreme brougham that origonally had an olds 307. I bought it w/ no engine, and i am wanting to drop in a 455 as well. i have no intentions of racing or doing burnouts, i simply want a nice cruiser that has power to pass people on the highway. my uncle had told me that a late model 455 with the low compression heads would suit me fine, and he said providing i took care of it and didn't abuse it, the transmission and rear end would hold up, so long as i drove it like i was a sane person. what do you guys think? also, are there any special modifications that need to be made for the fuel injection portion of the engine? -going from electronic quadrajunk to the stock 4bbl on the 455. or will it be a simple drop and go? also, i was told that a hood scoop would be required to compensate for the taller deck height, is this true? i would like to keep the car looking stock if i can. i'm trying to build a family cruiser w/ just a bit of extra power. fuel econ is no issue. thanks guys!!!! :?

Will the transmission hold up? Probably, but don't be suprised if it doesn't.
Rear end will be fine.
There's a lot of electronics and wiring you can eliminate if you're not running the computer.
A hood scoop shouldn't be needed, unless your body mounts are severly sagging. I've got mine under the stock hood.
