I'm putting a 72 455 from a electra 225 in my regal. Just kinda wanting to no what should
I expect as far as unforseen problems. The regal had a Chevy 350 and 200 trans when I got it
So I'm hoping the motor mounts match up. I'm going with a short tail th350 so I'm wondering
Will I end up with drive shaft issues. And for the ones that have done it, is it really that much
more torque and horsepower, And are you happy with it? Also can you get in there without taking
Out the heater core, most of the guys on cardomain.com took there's out

Very happy with mine, As far as the driveshaft I had mine shortend then had a new 3.5" made after twisting the stock one. Stock heater box with no a/c will be fine, a/c type box will have to come out. You can get a reg heater box to put back in if you have the a/c type. If you are going to use headers get them for a 68-74 skylark the drop in the gbody chassis. I would definitly build several of these if i could just for the torque . If you do it belive me you wont be sorry. And as far as transmission goes make sure you have the BOP 350 or 400 or youll need the adapter plate to fit the chevy to it. If ya have any questions Ill help ya as much as I can. Jimmy

glad you posted this in the process of dropping a olds 455 in a 79 cutty. To Jimmy so headers for a 68-74 skylark with a 455 will clear the fram rails of a g body..how much modifcations should i expect

Thanks for that. Its buick transmission though forgot to tell you that. I think imma use the the stock manifolds for now until i can find some headers for it on craigslist. Still trying figure out if i want it in the regal or my 70 skylark.

Stats75 yeah the skylark headers work but only on the buick motor , Buick,Pontiac,And Olds 455's are all different the heads are different and they have no interchangeable parts.

Sum_cut check out www.v8buick.com lotsa info there on buicks, parts etc.. the 455 in the regal would be sweet but it will be a tad bit more work than droppin it in the skylark being that the skylarks came with 455's.

Actually, I had no problem with the A/C box. There's enough room to remove the valve cover. The other thing to look out for is engine mounts. You can't use the Chevy mounts and there are no holes in the frame for BBB mounts, Buick V6 and small V8 are different. I used 68-72 A big block body (skylark) mounts. I believe the big car mounts (chassis side) are different. That might affect clearance. As for the transmission, being as your car is an 83, if you decide to go with a TH400 or TH 2004r, you'll have to get or fab a special cross member to support it. G-bodies didn't come with OD transmissions until 84 and there's a different mount point for those cross members on the frame that yours lacks. Any other info you need just ask.

Yup you are correct on the frame mounts, I made mine out of 4" c channel. And used the stock engine side mounts. And you are correct on the a/c box, I took mine out for the xtra room while fitting it in . Gald to hear you can leave it in 🙂 Now I know for the next build 😛

One more tip, You can use (as I did) the oil pump cover (the part the oil filter threads on to) from a Buick V6. It's on a different angle than the one on the 455. It provides better frame clearance.

For anyone following along that may not know, this is the part you need to use the 200-4R crossmember.
