I have been reading the threads were members have put a 455 olds in there G body and I have a few ????

The hooker headers that fit the big block and have one tube exit out side the frame, do you have to cut the inner fender well or make other mods?
Is there any cutting required with fitting these headers?
How do they fit is there a lot of denting required?
With the performer intake how big a air cleaner can you run with out hitting the hood?
Did you have to mill anything of the intake were the carb mounts to the intake?
Were there any hood mods required?
When the engine is under load does the air cleaner hit the hood?

Thanks

Is there any cutting required with fitting these headers? No, kind've defeats the purpose of selling purpose built headers for Hooker
How do they fit is there a lot of denting required?Depends on how worn your body mounts are and motor mounts, every car is tweaked a little different when you get into the fine details of alignment
With the performer intake how big a air cleaner can you run with out hitting the hood?2" tall or drop base

With a drop base air cleaner what would be the max air fillter size ?
Can one use a three inch drop base air cleaner with a q jet?

Thanks for the reply

The cutting required is only a small corner of the plastic inner fender liner. Other than this, mine went in like they were designed by Oldsmobile. I don't know if a 3" drop base will work with a QuadraJet. I have a 2 1/2" filter on mine with a slight drop base and it works fine with my Edelbrock carb, Performer intake and factory hood insulation. There are options available, you'd have to experiment to see if a specific air cleaner would work in your situation.

I like your build you have done a nice job with it. Have you had it to the track?

When I had my 455 in the car, I had clearance issues on the lower control arm on the drivers side. And yes you have to trim the inner fenders a bit, but I didn't run any inner fenders. I didn't have air cleaner issues, but I had a 6" cowl hood at the time.
With my new sbo build, I have no clearance issues with headers, one because none of the primary's go around the oustside of the frame, and two I have tubular a-arms now. Had I had the tubular a-arms 5 years ago, I wouldn't have had any issues with the hooker headers on the bbo.

Inner Fender well a small bit, if you are careful with your fitment you can make it look like it belongs there. I wasn't that careful, but you can see it here. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...8407284.118311.100000151724710&type=3&theater and here http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...8407284.118311.100000151724710&type=3&theater Even the linkage to the column for the shift interlock still fits. You will have to be careful of tire size on the front, the ones I'm running just rub the header at full steering lock. I don't have the exact size of the top of my head, but they are wider than stock. if my rim backspacing was 1/4 inch less I think i'd be good, but that's about all i could do and stay in the wheel well with these tires. I might switch to a bit narrower tread when these wear down, but they are brand new now.[/b}

Is there any cutting required with fitting these headers?
NO, but I did get a couple of 2 inch band style muffler clamps where the tube that goes over the frame goes back into the rest. I don't think I have pics of that tho.

How do they fit is there a lot of denting required?
None, but I did put brand new mounts in. They fit awsome, one other concern you will have tho is a double hump crossmember to run the exhaust through. Also I ran the 200-4r trans and the speedo cable runs awful close to the exhaust so I wrapped it in heat insulation.

With the performer intake how big a air cleaner can you run with out hitting the hood?
I have a 14 inch drop base air cleaner. With my new ram air hood I am upgrading to an RPM Air Gap and Holley 850, but with the performer, quadrajet, and the drop base air cleaner and stock hood the air cleaner was pressed against the hood insulation a hair, not bad though.
Did you have to mill anything of the intake were the carb mounts to the intake?
No
Were there any hood mods required? Not with the stock hood.

When the engine is under load does the air cleaner hit the hood? See above, but it didn't hurt anything, and I launched it hard.

Thanks

Other things to consider. I wanted to keep the A/C. So the front A/C bracket had to be modified. I mounted it all up except where it bolts to the water pump. (wouldn't reach, engine is 1.3 inches approx taller). I then cut it through where the big hole in it is. Then bolted the ears to the water pump and cut some metal to fit the gap and tacked it in. Then disassembled, welded up, and painted. Looks almost factory. Most of the brackets that bolt to the intake will not fit, but they are not really needed anyway. The performer even has the brackets so you can keep your cruise control if you want - I did. I'm sure you saw that you have to make a spacer to go between the alternator bracket and the P/S bracket. I cut down a metal bushing from something, can't remember what. Stock P/S belt should fit, Alternator and A/C belts will need to be longer. I think the alternator belt was 2 inches, and the A/C was 3 to put both in the middle of travel. Lastly you are gonna want wider tires on the rear for all your new torque 😀 I love my 295/50R15's. I have a lot of pics posted on FB in the same album I posted the others from. Feel free to take a look. I'm about to send it off for paint, can't wait 😀. If you have any questions, you are better to contact me there, I don't look here that often, but FB will send me an alert on my phone.
