So I got a 71 455 from a limo (actually, a stretch hearse...) that had been put into a 70 Cutlass. The engine has headers for that car and Moroso chrome valve covers. 2 problems here. My 85 Cutlass has AC which I want to retain...will the tall Moroso valve covers fit? It looks like it will be awful close. Second, other than the $600 Hooker headers, or the equally expensive Dick Miller units, is there any header that can be made to work? I know this engine is a bit wider and taller, but I find it hard to believe that the small block headers would hit...and that there is no reasonably priced alternative for a street driven car...

Some have made the Hedman SBO G body headers work, close but worked. I believe the sleeve around the steering shaft was removed. The W/Z manifold's is also an option. You need to extend the A/C brackets too.

For a street BBO I would just run W/Z manifolds and be done with it. Easy install and cheaper than headers.

Any SBO header that you try to use will take work to make them fit. So you either pay the money for a set of headers made to fit, or spend less on headers but more time and effort in redesigning a set to fit.
