4x4 4L80E to 2wd

So I have a 4L80E coming out of 02 GMC K2500HD. I have owed the truck since new. I had the trans built a few years back and it has some cool sh*t done to it. My question is can I just change the tail shaft to a 2wd one.
I do have a TCI controller for the install.
I'll be ordering GForce cross member.
And I'll be measuring for a shorter driveshaft.

yes, but you have to change the plug in the back with one with a small orifice. the cup plug you have now is closed off because its 4x4

Need a tail shaft housing and different output shaft. And the plug with orifice as mentioned above

Thought it would be easier by putting on a tail shaft then tearing it down to change the output shaft.

It is very easy lol if it takes you more than 1 hour your doing it wrong. to remove that cup plug in the back, is nothing to do you could even use a screw to take the old one out. And tap the new one in. Attached is a picture of the one you need for 2WD

You can change an output shaft in under an hour? I went the other way myself, found a 2wd unit in the junkyard and converted to 4wd so rebuilt it while I was in there.

This GM 4L80E tail shaft adapter is designed to bolt to a short output 4wd transmission, allowing the use of a slip or fixed yoke on a 4wd transmission. This will shorten your drivetrain substantially vs a 2wd 4L80E case.

Only issue is you need a way to run a VSS externally
