Just got the 7.5 10 bolt cleaned for paint and am a little confused as to what I have. Now I have not had the cover off of it, and it is sitting on jackstands. If I turn the axle by hand the other side turns the opposite direction like open carrier, Although the yoke does not turn. If I turn the yoke, both axles turn the same direction.. Why does the yoke not turn when the axle is turned by hand yet axles turn when yoke is turned ? And why do the turn the same with the yoke and opposite by hand?

There is a preload on the pinion bearing that makes it slightly harder to turn than the gears in the open differential. The axle bearing don't have this built in resistance.

Power is like millennials: it will always take the easiest path.
