The 350 will be a mild one with 10:1 compression, "rv" cam, and q jet. I'm basically getting the 2004r for free and its currently in a running/driving caprice wagon so I can test it. And the olds won't hit pavement very often. Mebbe an occasional grudge race on a back highway(my brother has informed me I'll be racing him and his iroc lol). Only other trans option atm is a 5-speed from a 4.3 s10 which is tempting and will def go with the fun vibe but would jack up build cost which at this point I can't afford. Almost everything ive been getting recently has been in trade. Usually a labor trade

Also on big blocks.....my first car was a 75 caddy with a 500 ci v8.....between that an the fact the first street race I ever saw was a t top g body cutlass with a blown big block beating a 69 chevelle also with a blown big block I am a big block junkie 🙂

It's not how you get to what you want as long as you get there !!
BB's are great l got 3 , 468, 496 an a 502, l'm not a SB guy, well other than my Elcamino an truck but there more just nice drivers or atleast that's the plan the Elcamino is going in ! It's easier to get HP out of a BB than a SB but SB's are cheaper to build an find parts for.
I thought about putting a 8-71 on the Oldsmobile an it's still a thought as l love that sound, an the power doesn't hurt! Lol

Don't think you'll find a 502 in the junkyard, lol ! I've had mine for years without dropping it in something, l think my Chevelle is getting it but not 100% sure of it yet, haven't started putting it together.
Well sounds like you got some of the parts you need, just got to throw it together.
5 speed in the S-10 should work good, cant see it costing that much to set it up as long as you use the linkage out if the S-10 should just need petals and maybe a driveshaft. But ya got it an that's a start.

Drive shaft is what'd get me. He has an astro but he's not ready to part it out so I'd have to have the driveshaft made

If the driveshaft needs to be shorten that's cheap, lengthened that ain't .

Ya it's funny what some people throw away. And it pisses me off the stuff that gets crush, oh well.

Find out the length you need, if l remember right l have a aluminum driveshaft off a S-10 that l got the 4l60e out of, it's yours you want it, u pay shipping ! It's out of 96 reg cab long box.

I had looked into s10 driveshafts.....they were all either too short or too long. With my rear suspension lift a Chevy astro shaft is perfect (70"). I just gotta wait till my boss decides to just part out the astro. I do have a spare g body shaft I could have shortened should I go with the s10 5-speed

I would go with the 5 speed then it's over an done an it's what you want in the end anyways. Any G-body clutch petal should work and maybe others.
I would check the facts first, l can't remember but l think S-10 has a hydraulic throwout for the clutch.
