hi everyone new to forum, I own a 79 grand lemans and I was thinking about putting T-Tops on it off a donor car. My question is what car would be best candidate ? I was thinking Malibu but was wondering if the Malibu was ever offered with T-Tops,does anyone know if they were?

To the best of my knowledge, the Malibu was not offered with the T roof option. As for a donor vehicle, I'm not sure. Possibly a Grand Prix or Monte Carlo, but you'd have to do some measuring, to see if the size of the roof and T roof panels are compatible with the Lemans roof and door glass. Just my $0.02.

There was no T-top option on these cars, Lemans or Malibu. I am aware of a power sunroof option.
As mentioned, it would be Monte Carlo or Grand Prix...or Buick T-Type/ GN.

However, years back I've seen a Lemans 2-dr wagon conversion with a T-top listed for sale. I'm sure there was a lot of surgery performed on this car. It was nicely done.

I hadn't thought about it, but PontiacGP makes a good point. I'm not sure that it could be done structurally. The Astroroof conversion might be a better option. I purchased some parts from a local guy years ago, and he had a 2 door Malibu that he wanted to graft a moonroof from a Cutlass or Buick Regal into. I'm not sure if he ever completed the conversion, but on that bodystyle, it probably makes more sense.

Jeff,
It would definitely have to be measured thoroughly before delving into this project.
Btw, my dash came from a T-top Grand Prix.

My 79 Grand Am has the factory power glass sunroof, it would take some measuring, but I am fairly sure one from a Cutlass or regal could be adapted. T-tops might be more of a challenge (although very cool if successful), and could possibly be used from a Grand Prix, Cutlass, or Regal. I'm not sure what pontiacgp meant though about the B pillar not extending to the roof, they have the same type of pillar a Grand Prix, Cutlass, etc. has. Overall, I don't know if the risk outweighs the benefits.

this is the B pillar I am referring to, and below the 79 Grand Prix had a similar B pillar...Grand Prix did not a similar style to the 79 Grand Lemans.

I like the design of the Gand Lemans and Grand Am windows and B pillar area better than the GP, it makes the car look lighter in my opinion. I wouldn't change that design for t-top and I would go with a sunroof

OK, now I understand what you're referring to. The hardest part of fitting T-tops would be that the Grand Am and LeMans (and drooling cousin Malibu) never came with them. The B pillar is straight like the GP, so it might work, I just wouldn't want to find out by cutting into the roof myself.
