my question is, does the rearend out of a t-type or grand national bolt straight under a malibu(78-83)

well i'm gonna be using a th350 trans and if i'm not mistaking the GN comes w/ a 200-4R. are the 350 & 200 the same length?

The need for a shorter driveshaft is because the yoke on the diff sits farther forward. But ya the 350 and 200r4 should be close enough to the same length to not need a different driveshaft.

are there any other cars that have rear ends that will bolt directly into place under a malibu. either a 8.5" or a 12 bolt? a buddy of mine has a 12 bolt under a nova, will that one bolt right into place by chance?

The nova is a leaf spring car, so no it won't work. People have been using chevelle 12 bolts from the late 60'-early 70's, for some reason I can't remember the years. But they require new upper arms that are made for the swap, and are wider than the stock rear which may require different offset wheels. The mid to late 70's a-body 8.5 has been used with the 12 bolt swap arms also, but they are even wider.

no. a rear out of a nova will not bolt right up.. unless this nova has a triangulated 4 bar suspension. although a 12 bolt would be nice to have for strength, you will need to do some pretty significant fabricating / modifications to it ( grind the axle tubes down smooth and make some shock mounts and spring perches, then of course weld them... very well- the last thing you need is your rear to leave your chassis when you launch. )

i would look for a 8.5 10 bolt out of a g body. its lighter and just as strong as a 12 bolt plus ready to slap in.

what all did those 8.5" come in besides grand nationals and t-types and how can they by identified and told apart
