8.5 Corporate 10 bolt from 76 regal to our G cars???

I'm only worried about the top mounts on the axle for the upper control arms. I have an A-body 10 bolt from my 76 regal in hand. I just need to figure out the control arm hookup issue.

I will buy a set of SSM upper conversion control arms, but only to figure out the geometery. I might run them on my Cutlass but I will probably make my own for the future G-cars in my stable.

problem with putting the old brackets on the new one is the brackets are cast iron. Also the 10 bolt A body is MUCH cheaper than a one off 9" ford. They can hold alot too. If you want one look for a open carrier one and upgrade later. Look around and you can find one for 300 or so. Just need to know where to look.

Usually 4 link rear suspensions all use a 90 degree splay between the two mounts. So, measure the distance between the two upper mounts to see if they are eqi-distant to the ones on a G body. If so, there is a good chance they can be made to work. If not, you will have to make your own uppers.

kris ,
narrowing the axle tubes is nothing compare to resplining the axles and machining a grooove for the C clip ! ( cause you have to shorten the axles too)

I can buy custom axle shafts from Summit or Jeg's at a decent price so I'm not worried about that. I have busted more than one left side axle shaft so they always get replaced with good ones anyway.

I could also buy a couple of wheels with more back spacing to compensate for the extra width. Those options are all on the table.

The thing I still don't have an answer for is the upper control arms. I may just have to make some - I really don't want to - and then go from there.

if I remember well ..... there is an inch difference between the A body upper ears compare to the G body...

i verified on a 69 cutlass this summer

Okay, now I'm getting somewhere...

An inch off, I think I can make a set of upper arms to compensate that, as long as they are at the same angle.

Thanks! I now know which direction to go in!

the "A" body ears being 1 inch off ......you will have (to make things simple )to cut & put an angle in the A arm .....because it wont go in staright as is....
Dan

Yeah, that's what I was thinking; I will make a couple of Z shaped A-arms and see how they work!

Thanks for the help!

i was told south side machine went out of business or was bought out  looks like your making your own parts :? I like the 8.8 ford approach....i dont care if its a ford part...its durable and close to the width of a G-body...
