How long is the driveshaft for a 8.5 for a th350 universal to universal? I found one for a 400 would need a diff yoke but its 51" u joint to u joint

51 1/2 inches center to center on u-joint. 51" will work just fine.

So there won't be any issues? He wants $75 for it or would I be better getting mine shortened

you can get conversion u-joints

You lost me

you said the 400 would need another yoke....which I took to mean the u-joint wasn't the same, why else would it need another yoke.?..

Doesn't the 400 use a larger yoke or diff spline count

you mean the slip yoke...I'm not sure but do the u-joint use the inside C clip?...if it is that's a G3 u-joint which is what's on the G body so you can use a slip yoke from your car. The thing is drive shafts are balanced with the slip yoke installed so if you do change the slip yoke you might have the shaft unbalanced.

how much shorter is the driveshaft going from a 7.5" w/ overdrive to an 8.5" w/ overdrive?

well a 200-4r and a short tailed 350 are the same length and use the same driveshaft. the 8.5 shaft is 1" shorter than the 7,5 driveshaft.
