8.8 Swap Parts?

Can you tell me why? What would happen if I kept the stock bushings in?

The angle between the axle ears and the car is too extreme for regular bushings to work. Besides it's going to bind up the suspension just sitting on the ground, forget about it actually working .

Thanks Turbolq4. What would be my least expensive source for spherical bushings?
 
You'll see what I mean after they are installed. I might be able to get a picture of mine this evening. There's just no way a standard bushing is going to flex enough to make that kind of angle.
 
I understand. Thanks! Could you measure the distance from center eyelet to center eyelet of the UCA?

I have relocation brackets on the upper arms so they won't be the same. You'll need double adjustable upper arms for a mustang too. Saves loads of trouble.

Turbolq4, what other mods have you done to the 8.8 you have? I see you still have the Mustang rims on it...with new rubber! Did you weld around the axle tubes at the diff housing?

I welded the axles tubes to the housing all the way around. The sperical upper joints and double adjustable upper arms will get it in the car. It actually drives ok just like that. It will wheelhop like a big dog if you're into those things (why else would you swap in a big axle!) The upper arm relocation brackets help correct the instant center issue but I had to shorten the arms to keep the pinion angle I wanted. Moral of the story is get it together like you want and then measure for the driveshaft. Or you can do it the special ed way, like me, and put adjustable lower control arms in so you can move the axle back to keep the driveshaft from being buried in the trans. Here's the picture of the spherical bushing.

Thanks for the detailed info! The UCAs looks like they are mounted lower (2") and back (2") at the body with the relocation brackets. I can see what you mean about the purpose of the spherical bushing! It looks like the angle of the stock Ford arms would point outward about 15 to 20 deg!

I'm sourcing the adjustable upper control arms...Can I use any adjustable UCA (A-Body, G-Body, Fox Body, Fourth Generation Mustang, newer Mustang), or does it have to be for a Fox Body Mustang (1979-1993)?

Turbolq4, did you get that measurement from the body bolt location to the diff bushing bolt? Thanks!
