8 Inch rear wheels?

My Malibu has 255-60-15's on 8 inch 1980 Corvette aluminum rally/slot wheels.

Stock Late C3 15X8 wheels were 4" BS, so those should be close to perfect in back.

Have 245-60-15's on a 15X8 steel Corvette rally, 4 inch back space on my 88 Super Sport and they fit real nice in both front and rear.P8291610.JPG P1011651.JPG
Not the greatest pictures but...you can see they tuck under the fender quite well.

I have seen several threads that say 4" backspace, and will fit a 275/60/15, but lilbowtie has real world experience.

4in will work depending on the section width of the tire. With my 29.5 - 9 - 15 slicks they just fit w/o hitting the frame, I need 3.5. I have a pick of 28 - 9 - 15 slicks and you can see it has room but take another 1/2 in off ???

I can't give you the back spacing, but we're running two sets of wheels 275/50r15 drag radials on 10" wide wheels and 245/45r17 on 9.5" wide wheels with plenty of room (no scrubbing). Obviouslyy, the drag radials come out when it's at the strip. We could easily get 255's on the 17's and maybe 265's. You won't have any problems with an 8" wide wheel - these wheel wells are giant IMHO.

I've used 15x8 with 4inch backspace with 275/60/15s on my el camino and malibu. the malibu fit perfect but just for safety I would roll the fender lip. the el camino definitely need the lip rolled.

I have real world experience with 4 "bs but I also have a notch and lotsa room. I can fit 10s with 5 1/4" bs if only they made one in a factory re-issuse

I ran BFG 275/60R15 on 15 x 8 rims with 4" of backspace on my Monte before I notched the frame and also currently have some Cobra 275/60's on my Regal with 4" of back space, obviously tire size and even brands along with ride height and which Gbody come into play but I have never had a rubbing issue with this set up

I'm running 15X8 with 4.5" backspacing and 255/60's have approx 3/8" clearance to the frame and wheel opening on my Cutlass. Maybe Regals are different. I'm lower than stock, but no notched frame or rolled fenders. I think I'd have to for a wider tire.

Like bar50 mentioned, wheelwell shape matters a lot, especially on the front. I think you're going to have to watch closely for problems with a 235/70 in the front, 225/70s caught the bottom of the fenders on my old Malibu, that's why it had 235/60 in front, 255/60 in the rear, on C3 corvette aluminum wheels.

That is a good point. 15X8 with 4" BS will work with that tire in back. In front, slightly more backspacing will fit the wheel wells better and be less likely to rub the wheel well. They will be more likely to rub the frame and the swaybar, but this is at full lock, instead of "just driving down the road". With too much BS you can get into the Tie Rod and control arm, especially with smaller diameter wheels, so it is a fine line.

I run LS1 and Baer 12" brakes in front on my cars and the ideal BS is much different front to back. In front, the ideal BS is 4.7", in back, the ideal BS is 4". These put the tire in the best location with the least rubbing. In Front, with 12" brakes, 5" BS would probably work best with an 8" wheel, but 18" wheels would be needed due to suspension contact.
